AHA Registered Miniature Herefords
The Craig Farm is home to a small herd of Miniature Hereford cattle in north Georgia. The herd was established in 2022. Our foundation stock came from Broken Spoke Farm in Tennessee and Spring Trail Ranch in North Carolina. We hope to make a name for ourselves as breeders of fine quality Miniature Herefords that excel in the pasture or the show ring. In the future we will offer grass-fed beef for sale to local customers.
Our Miniature Herefords are registered with the American Hereford Association and are DNA tested. We select for correct structure on a small frame. We have a preference for polled cattle, although we have included some exceptional horned females in our herd. Our Herefords are grass fed and rotationally grazed through our pastures. We utilize low stress and low impact management practices on our farm.
When we decided to expand our farm to larger animals, Brandon and I had very limited firsthand experience with cattle. It was important to us to have a small, docile, and easy to manage breed. The Miniature Hereford fits that bill perfectly. As we learned more about them, we came to realize that the Miniature Hereford is perfect for a small farm in many ways:
* Miniature Herefords are excellent mothers and make plenty of milk
* Miniature Herefords require less feed than standard sized cattle, meaning a small farm can maximize production without over-grazing
* Miniature Herefords are easy to manage
* Miniature Herefords are eye catching - literally we've had people stop in the road along our pasture to look at our cows
* Miniature Herefords produce a smaller amount of beef that is ideal for a small family to store and consume
* Miniature Herefords impact soil less than full size counterparts
